The Aquatest GH-KH is used to determine the general hardness (GH) and carbonate (KH) of water with an accuracy of German grade 1 (° n). The determination method in both tests is based on the dropwise addition of a reagent (with exact drop counting) to a measured water sample. The end of the reaction is indicated by the change in color specified in the attached standard. The volume of GH and KH reagents allows determination of approximately 2x300 ° n.

The set contains:

  • 2 bottles with reagent solutions
  • color change pattern
  • test tube
  • syringe
  • instruction

Why measure water hardness?

General hardness is the content of calcium and magnesium salts in water. They significantly affect the life processes of organisms, among others permeability of cell membranes, osmotic pressure, biochemical transformations. Carbonate hardness (alkalinity) is a measure of the acid capacity of water and the ability to stabilize pH. Alkalinity is mainly caused by the presence of calcium and magnesium bicarbonates, and in some waters also the presence of sodium and potassium carbonates and bicarbonates.
